ALTER-EU spokesperson Erik Wesselius: "The new register will still allow lobbyists not to register, and it remains to be seen whether the widespread practice of underreporting (e.g. to submit financial data that is much lower than the actual amount spend or earned) will be tackled."

On 3 December ALTER-EU spokesperson Erik Wesselius took part in the debate hosted by EurActiv on the joint register. Wesselius: "Even though the proposed joint register will improve the quantity of registrants, we still think 20 percent will not register. Moreover, it remains to be seen whether the quality of the submitted data will improve. At the moment there's widespread underreporting."
