ALTER-EU groups have complained to European Parliament (EP) President Schulz about the 'EP Former Members Association (FMA)' openly seeking corporate sponsorship for activities at the premises of the European Parliament, in clear violation of the Code of Conduct for (ex-)MEPs.
The Code of Conduct (CoC) for lobbyists, which registrants of the Joint Transparency Register (TR) sign up to, in its current form, is weak and vaguely worded. It also needs to be revised in light of the new CoC for MEPs, which was introduced on January 1st 2012 (the MEP CoC was introduced after the TR came into being (June 2011)).
Almost two years after the introduction of the Transparency Register, analysis by the Alliance for Lobbying Transparency and Ethics Regulation (ALTER-EU) shows that the register does not live up to its name. What needs to be done?
